Standing the volunteers in a line at the front of the stage the hypnotist instructed them to close their eyes as the music started again. He spoke for several moments, telling them that they would fall backwards into a deep trance as he touched them on the forehead. One-by-one they began to fall backwards into his arms before he laid them on the ground. He continued talking in what seemed like riddles for several minutes, then woke everyone back up and asked them to take a seat on stage. He told them all to go to sleep – and they did. To my amusement, he asked my uncles friend Stuart (who had volunteered) to come to the front of the stage. Stuart was told that when the hypnotist snapped his fingers, he would believe he was a ballet dancer. The scepticism kicked right in to me when he said this, but to my absolute amazement – it worked.
